Planate has been operating across Africa for over a decade. With a regional hub in Nairobi, Kenya, established in 2018 and staff presence across the continent. Planate’s Nairobi office serves as the operational anchor for our Africa and Middle East work.

From Kenya, our team supports projects across Sub-Saharan Africa and the broader region, drawing on multidisciplinary expertise in facilities engineering, construction management, GIS, and drone technology. The office works closely with clients and partners operating in environments where infrastructure challenges are significant, and the margin for error is low.

 What We Deliver

Our Africa capability spans the full engineering and construction management lifecycle:

Civil and Structural Engineering: land development, drainage, water and wastewater, roadways, utilities, and structural design across steel, concrete, and masonry, with compliance across ACI, AISC, Eurocode, and local standards.

MEP and Fire Protection Engineering: mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire suppression systems, including renewable integration, smart grids, and BIM coordination across disciplines.

Construction Management: project planning and scheduling, QA/QC, cost estimating, contractor coordination, and closeout, from groundbreaking through final handover.

Critical Power and Water Engineering: UPS systems, generators, hybrid renewable solutions, water treatment plants, sewage systems, and irrigation networks, designed for long-term resilience and compliance with WHO and ISO standards.

GIS and Digital Engineering: high-resolution mapping, 3D terrain modelling, spatial analysis, drone and satellite imagery processing, and web-based dashboards for real-time project monitoring.

Where We Have Done This Work

South Sudan — A&E and ICT Support (USAID INFRA Field Support II)

Planate delivered architecture and engineering services in support of USAID’s infrastructure program in South Sudan, covering ICT and telecom design, water and wastewater system review, and electrical and HVAC assessments across multiple sites.

Ethiopia — Construction Observation, DTRA FALCON

Teaming with Ahtna Global, Planate delivered independent A&E observation services for the African Union’s Pan African Veterinary Vaccine Production Center in Bishoftu. Work included onsite construction monitoring, technical reach-back support across architectural and MEP disciplines, and quality assurance reporting under the FALCON contract vehicle.

Senegal — Health Emergency Operations Center, DTRA

As a subcontractor to CH2M, Planate provided on-site construction management for a DTRA-sponsored Health Emergency Operations Center in Dakar — a greenfield facility supporting the Senegal Ministry of Health in bio surveillance and emergency response. Services covered daily construction supervision, design review, procurement oversight, cost estimating, and final turnover coordination.

South Africa — U.S. Embassy Upgrade, Department of State

Planate provided project and construction management services upgrade to the U.S. Embassy in Pretoria, covering demolition, new construction, security enhancements, and quality assurance across multiple facilities and access points.

Djibouti — Construction Management, NAVFAC Camp Lemonnier

Planate has provided ongoing construction management and infrastructure support to NAVFAC EURAFSWA at Camp Lemonnier, delivering renovation and new construction oversight across a range of projects including power plant switchgear expansion, fire suppression systems, reverse osmosis upgrades, and HVAC and utility improvements.

Built for This Environment

Operating across Sub-Saharan Africa requires more than technical capability. It requires the ability to mobilize quickly, coordinate with local authorities and international clients simultaneously, maintain quality in resource-constrained settings, and adapt to the regulatory and logistical realities of each country.

Planate’s Africa team is structured to do exactly that — combining local presence with the technical depth of a global engineering network, and a track record of delivery on U.S. government and multilateral programs across the continent.

As infrastructure investment in Sub-Saharan Africa continues to grow, Planate is positioned to support that work.
